Our Spreads Are Not Negotiable™
All OANDA traders get ultra-tight spreads with no extra fees, no commissions, no middlemen
OANDA takes cost uncertainty out of the equation. We offer the same spreads to everyone, with no discrimination or restrictions. To be absolutely open and clear about the cost of trading with us, we publish our spreads for all traded currency pairs online, for everyone to see. We also publish a weekly record of the previous seven days worth of spreads so everyone can audit our historical data. Our trading platform refreshes spread and rate data tick-by-tick, so you can adapt your strategy to fit market conditions.
We're a different type of market maker
OANDA approaches forex trading differently than banks and other market makers. In fact, we’ve made it our mission to change the way forex trading is done—to make it more efficient, less costly, and fair.
We refuse to engage in the practice of inflating spreads to provide hidden kickbacks to Introducing Brokers (IBs) or any third party. In the era of electronic trading, these middlemen offer no value for collecting a portion of the spread.
At OANDA, we never pigeonhole our clients into categories based on who they are, how much they trade, or who referred them. Everyone gets the same low spread and equal access to our forex market data—no matter what their account size or trading patterns.
Spreads change based on market liquidity
The forex market is not static. Rate volatility and changes in global market liquidity can result in large spread increases following news announcements and during times of political uncertainty. Market spreads also widen on weekends, when liquidity is lower. At such times, OANDA is forced to widen our spreads.
If you decide to trade on weekends or around news announcements, you need to alter your trading strategy. To prevent unwanted order execution, adjust your take profits/stop losses or trailing stops. To avoid margin calls, reduce the margin you are using by closing some trades or add more funds to your account.
OANDA's spreads begin to widen at 8:30 p.m. GMT on Friday, before the New York market officially closes at 10:00 p.m. GMT. Our spreads start narrowing again after the market opens Monday morning in Sydney (10:00 p.m. GMT on Sunday).
